Ontario’s Newcomer Settlement Program, open to all newcomers, helps over 80,000 newcomers get settled each year, said Dr. Eric Hoskins, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. “The program helps them connect with community services, housing, language training and employment.
“We provide Bridge Training Programs that have helped more than 40,000 newcomers find jobs in their field.
“These programs are recognized across the country as best practices for labour market integration. In other words – and I like it when I get to say this – Ontario is leading the way!
“These programs address labour market needs in more than 100 professions and trades – and they provide job-specific training, experience and skills to bridge the professional and cultural gaps that skilled newcomers face.
“These programs are home-grown, developed right here in Ontario, in consultation with post-secondary institutions, employers, and community agencies.
“Ontario’s programs are good, and they are efficient. Take our language training programs – we provide 120,000 newcomers each year with ESL or FSL training in partnership with school boards across the province.
